Bitter Dissappointment: Celtics Secure #5 Pick Overall

by Eric on May 22, 2007

The NBA Draft Lottery has concluded, and the Boston Celtics have secured the #5 pick in this year’s upcoming draft, despite having the second worst record in the league last year.

As Yahoo Sports summarizes:

Losing did not pay for Memphis and Boston at the NBA draft lottery, where Portland won the No. 1 pick. Seattle will select second, Atlanta third.

Prior to the lottery, these were the top 10 players in the draft as ranked by ESPN:

Greg Oden, C
Kevin Durant, SF
Yi Jianlian, PF
Brandan Wright, PF
Al Horford, PF
Corey Brewer, SG
Julian Wright, SF
Mike Conley, PG
Jeff Green, SF
Joakim Noah, PF

According to those rankings, the Celtics would then end up with Al Horford, PF. Stay tuned for more news as things unfold, the organization reacts, and the fans riot.
