Arnold “Red” Auerbach, 1917-2006

Arnold Red Auerbach, named the greatest coach in the history of the National Basketball Association and, for more than half a century, the combative, competitive and occasionally abrasive personification of pro basketball’s greatest dynasty, the Boston Celtics, has died at age 89.

Celtics End Preseason with Loss to Raptors

The Boston Celtics fought hard right down to the final buzzer tonight but came up short and lost to the Raptors 106 to 102. In their final preseason game before next Wednesday’s opener, the Celtics played well offensively and were able to keep the game close despite turning the ball over more than 20 times in the contest. Delonte West score 17 points while coming down with 5 rebounds and 5 assists in the loss. With Paul Pierce out with an infected finger, Wally Szczerbiak stepped up once again to lead the team’s scoring efforts with his 27 points tonight. Read the rest of this entry »

Celtics Close Out Preseason Tonight

The Boston Celtics will close out their preseason schedule tonight on the floor of the TD BankNorth Garden in Boston. The Celtics will face the undefeated Toronto Raptors, and likely take the court without the play of veteran and Captain Paul Pierce who remains injured with an infected finger. With Pierce out of the starting rotation, Delonte West may start the game at shooting guard along with Sebastian Telfair at the point — the same way they started the game in last night’s loss to the Nets.

Celtics Lose to Nets 109 - 106

The Boston Celtics lost their game tonight in New Jersey to the Nets by the final score of 109 to 106. Delonte West got the start tonight from the shooting guard position along with Sebastian Telfair in the back court. West played 28 minutes in the game but struggled a bit with his shot as he went 5 for 14 on the night for 10 points. Delonte also came away with five boards, an assist and two steals in the game.

Celtics vs. Nets - Preseason Preview

The Boston Celtics are in New Jersey to play the Nets for tonight’s game and will return home Wednesday to close out their preseason schedule against the Raptors at the Garden. Celtics captain Paul Pierce is not playing in tonight’s game because of an infection on his left hand’s middle finger. He will be examined by team physicians and is now on the injury report and listed as ‘day to day’. Delonte West is expected to play as Wally Szczerbiak’s backup off the bench. The Celtics scored a 94-90 decision in last Wednesday’s win over the Nets, mounting a comeback against New Jersey’s reserves in the fourth quarter.
