GM Sam Presti: West was Critical in Trade Talks

From the Supersonics.com Draft Buzz Blog:

This is one of the biggest nights in franchise history because of Durant, no doubt, but also because of the second top-five pick the Sonics added by trading Ray Allen to the Boston Celtics with the No. 35 pick in exchange for the rights to Jeff Green, guard Delonte West and swingman Wally Szczerbiak.

“We are thrilled to be able to bring in two players and people like Kevin Durant and Jeff Green,” said Presti, who also discussed the role West played in the deal, saying, “It’s hard to do a deal like this without Delonte West in the deal.”

I’ve heard mixed reactions on where Delonte will fit in on the SuperSonics roster.  Stay tuned as more news and updates ae made available throughout the course of the off season.

So they wanted Delonte in the trade but Danny didn’t put his name in? Is that right? Now I’m confuse.

I know one thing, if this is true, which it probably isn’t. Delonte and all his folks will support him forever, no matter where he is, he will always have MAJOR SUPPORT from da D.C. metro area. EVERYTHING HAPPENS FOR A REASON

Delonte West may be my favorite Sonic right now based simply on interview skills. The guy is hilarious.

His game is going to work really well in Seattle. The team needs a guy who penetrates and brings attitude and West fits the bill. I would not be suprised if he’s the starting PG on opening night.

I am so glad that DWest was included in this trade. Seattle was at a fork all of last season and into the offseason with their PG situation. Now with the Celt coming in, I think he’ll grab that starting spot and with Watson on the backup, I’m guessing Luke Ridnour will be traded with the 9 million trade exception we(the Sonics) got from Orlando in the Rashard deal.

As far as dwestrocksmyworld says though, I wouldn’t say he’s on a better team anymore. Allen and R Lewis were the Sonics scoring last year. Now it’s on the shoulders of two Rookies and Chris Wilcox. Hmmmmm. When you look at it, this team is younger than Boston now. It will take some time to gel. I think Boston will be alot better with Ray Allen to keep them double teams off of Pierce.

Pierce is going to be lethal now that he can play man on man.

To be honest though, I sure am gonna miss Ray Allen. He was the only guy who could actually do what he wanted to do on the floor.

Yeah, I guess you’re right adaminseattle. The sonics are a young team, like Boston was last year. But just like Boston, they have a lot of potential. (boston just didn’t realize it)
Hey sonciscentral, where can I see the interview w/ D????

I was so pissed when I found out about the Delonte trade. The anger for Danny Ainge shortly gave way to increadible sadness. Losing Delonte is like losing a toe. You can do without it, but you damn well don’t want to! Delonte is my favorite player in the NBA, and will be till the day I die. But as I reflect over the trade more and more I think it makes the Celtics better, and it definitely gets Delonte into a better position.

I’m telling you, Delonte and Durant are going to be the next Pippen/Jordan just to show Danny Ainge that he’s stupid for trading Delonte. I live near Boston, and I can’t watch Seattle games until they come to Boston, wicked bummed.

The night I found out about the trade I went on E-bay and bought a D-West autographed card and a limited edition D-West St. Patrick’s day jersey. I also have a framed and autographed picture by D-West.

Statistically, Delonte is the best guard on the Sonics roster. If he doesn’t get the starting guard position, I’ll be sending some nasty E-mails to the Sonics office.

    So true, Skaterdude, so true.
(when I found out he was traded, a few days later I bought a DWest jersey)
D is my fav player, too, so I’m proud for him.
Hey, he’s new to the Sonics. I don’t think I’d start him just yet, cuz he’s still getting used to the team, ya know?

Nah dude. Delonte should start by himself. He could take it, 1 on 5. No problem. Imagine if there was an entire team of just Delonte’s? That would be insane!!!

Yeah I get what you’re saying though. I just hope he doesn’t start out as slow as he did last year, casue then they’ll think he sucks and they’ll never play him. He needs to keep it going. Had a couple of high scoring games at the end of the season. Keep it up D-West!

Oh yeah, go to youtube.com and search for Delonte West. Watch the “Sock Quote” and “Hanger Commercial”. They’re the greatest things I’ve ever seen

Delonte has always had a great spot with the celtics. He should of been the in the 2 guard spot, even though Rondo isn’t that good anyway! I hope Delonte can go to a better team next season. Delonte your my favorite b-ball player! Keep up the good work!

    Hey,

I think Delonte getting traded to the Cleveland Cavalirs was good for him. I just think that he is not comfortable there yet. I love him, he is such a role model to me. I look up to him in so many insporational ways. And even though I’ve never meet him he still seems to help me through what ever I need a role model for.

I love u delonte, you are an awsome role model to me
